Just in time for the holidays.
On Monday night, the Austin City Council unanimously adopted a resolution to support the Buy Mower/Grow Mower campaign that was launched by the Austin Area Chamber of Commerce this summer.
The effort encourages residents to reduce out-of-county spending buy buying a portion of those goods and services here.
“I am very pleased,” said Sandy Forstner, executive director of the chamber. “It’s really important for local government to acknowledge the importance of shopping locally.”
Forstner also added that the campaign is an on-going effort that will last well after the holidays are over.
“We’ll continue it not only through the holiday season, but for years to come,” he said.
The county’s resolution passed 6-0.
“Now therefore, be it resolved by the Austin City Council, that the City supports the Buy Mower/Grow Mower campaign and hereby adopts the goal that city expenditures, where practical, fiscally responsible, and within statutory limitations, be made with businesses within the City of Austin and Mower County,” the last paragraph in the resolution states.
