ABC 6 News/KAAL TV will move into a new Rochester studio.
The new Rochester facility will be in the TJ Maxx Plaza at 1300 16th St. SW. It will increase the ABC 6 News footprint to more than 9,500 square feet. The facility will house a much expanded studio and bring the local news operation more under one roof, along with nearly $1 million in improvements. The operation is currently split between Rochester and Austin studios. More than 45 staffers will work out of the new location. ABC 6 News will also maintain its current ABC 6 News office and studio in Austin.
KAAL is owned by Twin Cities-based Hubbard Broadcasting, which owns TV and radio stations across the U.S. in such cities as Duluth, Minneapolis/St Paul, Chicago, Albany, Washington D.C., Seattle, Phoenix, Cincinnati, St. Louis and Albuquerque.
The new facility is expected to go on line early in 2015. Sperides Reiners are the project architects. Kraus-Anderson is the contractor.
