No one was injured in a fire at the former Austin Auto Truck Plaza — now a Kwik Trip — early Wednesday.
Police Chief Brian Krueger said emergency personnel responded to the gas station at 10th Place Northeast at about 2:50 a.m. Wednesday. A gas station employee told police a fire started at the back of the truck plaza gas station, and police could see smoke and flames coming from the back of the building.
Firefighters arrived soon after and got the blaze under control. Krueger said it’s unknown how the fire started or how much damage the flames caused.
Kwik Trip opened in the old location this spring, but officials said in April that the company plans to start construction on a 7,000-square-foot truck stop at some point this summer.
The new truck stop will be in a different location on the property than the current one. Hans Zietlow, director of real estate at Kwik Trip, said the new facility could open in November.
