The Austin boys hockey team gave Mankato West (8-5-1 overall, 7-1 Big Nine) all it could handle, but penalties caught up to the Packers in a 2-1 loss in Riverside Arena Saturday.

Austin (3-11-1 overall, 0-7-1 Big Nine) tied the game at 1-1 when Trevor Stevens scored on an assist from Isaac Arnold early in the third period, but the Scarlets took the lead for good a few minutes later when they scored on a power play. West scored their first goal on a 5-on-3 power play in the first period.

“It was a great game. It was probably one of the better games we’ve played this year,” Austin head coach Erik LaRock said. “I thought Jacob Johnson played really well in net for us. He made some big saves.”
