Best Bets: Events to celebrate weekend of love

This Valentine’s Day, go out and enjoy a nice dinner, some great desserts, and some fun music and dancing. With so much talent in Austin this weekend — a jazz band performance, some local musicians and an a cappella group — there is sure to be something to fill the special day with love. There are also plenty of options for singles!

1. The New Standards

7:30 to 9:30 p.m., Thursday, Historic Paramount Theatre

A jazz trio repertoire will play and sing their favorite songs in a stripped-down acoustic setting. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. For more information, call 507-434-0934.

2. Autism Family Respite Night at the YMCA

6 to 8:30 p.m., Friday, Austin YMCA

This event offers youth with autism spectrum disorders the chance to socialize, grow, and interact with friends while parents get a few hours away.

The event is for children grades kindergarten through 12th. Cost is $5 per event and is payable to the Hormel Historic Home prior to the event. Supervised activities will include free time in the gym with organized games as well as scooters, basketballs, and other equipment, swimming and a snack. The event is staffed by ASD professionals. 3. Uncork and Create – Valentine’s Day Edition

3 to 5 p.m., Saturday, Austin ArtWorks Center

A special edition of Uncork and Create will allow couples to spend some quality time together painting and sipping wine. Cost for Austin Area Commission for the Arts members is $35 and for non-members is $40. For more information, please call 507-434-0934.

4. DC Drifters Dinner and Dance

5 to 7 p.m., Saturday, Austin VFW Building

Enjoy a special romantic supper with candlelit tables followed by music and a dance with the DC Drifters. Limited seating is available and reservations are preferred. For $25, get either prime rib king cut or steak and shrimp with a glass of house wine or tap beer. For $20, choose between steak, windsor chop, or shrimp, with a glass of house wine or tap beer and the dance. Meals are $5 less for those who would like to leave prior to the dance. Bracelets for the band/dance are $10 per person or $15 per couple. 5. Hot Blues and Sweet Desserts

7:30 to 10 p.m., Saturday, Hormel Historic Home

Enjoy an exciting concert featuring acoustic artists Sena Ehrhardt, an Austin native, and Cole Allen along with Ken Valdez during an evening of hot blues and sweet desserts. Tickets are $25 and include the dessert bar. A cash bar is available, and seating is limited. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Paint the Town Pink events to support the Hormel Institute’s cancer research. For more information, call 507-433-4243.

6. Paramount Jazz

3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, Historic Paramount Theatre

Austin High School jazz students will perform a special show at the Historic Paramount Theater. Special guest Brian Koser will join the group courtesy of the Music Boosters of Austin. For more information, call 507-434-0934.

7. The Cat’s Pajamas

7 to 9 p.m., Sunday, Riverland Community College Frank W. Bridges Theatre
