Nellie C. Conway, 83, of Austin, died Wednesday evening, Feb. 25, 2015, at her home.

Nellie Catherine Baker was born Aug. 30, 1931, in Berlin, Maryland, to Harley and Hazel (Hastings) Baker. Nellie was a 1947 graduate of Buckingham High School in Berlin, Maryland. Following graduation, she attended Austin Community College where she received her A.A. degree, then continued her education at the University of Minnesota. She served her country in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952. On Jan. 1, 1952, Nellie and Charles Conway were united in marriage in Fort Meade, Maryland. The couple raised six children. Most of Nellie’s time was spent as a homemaker. She also worked in an insurance office, managed the So-Fro Fabric store in Austin, and was a wonderful volunteer. Nellie loved to sew, making draperies, clothing for her family and quilting. She gave her time as a volunteer to the Austin Public Library and was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

Nellie is survived by her husband Charles Conway of Austin; her children: Mark Conway, and John (Cathy) Conway, both of Austin, Mary (Tom) Taylor of Minneapolis, David Conway (Victoria McCurdy) of St. Paul, Minnesota, Michael (Lisa) Conway of Austin, Minnesota, and Bill (Susan) Conway of Austin; 12 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother.

She was preceded in death by her parents Harley and Hazel Baker; and one sister.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin, with Todd Portinga, Associate in Ministry, officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the St. Olaf Lutheran Church Building Fund or recipient of donor’s choice. Services prearranged and performed by Worlein Funeral Home of Austin. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
