New cell tower to go up in Red Rock

A new cell tower will be constructed just a mile north of Interstate 90 near 610th Avenue in Red Rock Township.
The Mower County Board of Commissioners approved a permit request Tuesday for SSC/Verizon Wireless to construct a 188-foot cellular tower with an equipment shelter in Red Rock Township.
County Coordinator Craig Oscarson said the tower would be about five miles from the Austin Municipal Airport, but the airport and other agencies had no objections to the tower.
In other news, the board:
—Approved a $10,000 request from the Cedar River Watershed District and Vision 2020 to help fund sediment basins in the Dobbins Creek subwatershed.
The two sediment basins will catch and hold water for up to 24 hours before letting it into the watershed system, according to CWRD officials. The county is contributing $5,000 a piece for two basin projects, which will be matched by the CRWD
