MINNEAPOLIS — Authorities in Minneapolis say they’ve made arrests and restored order after a large, chaotic group of young people blocked traffic and got into fights amid St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in downtown.
Minnesota Police Department spokesman John Elder tells KMSP-TV it appears the group came into town with the intention of causing trouble.
Elder said at a news conference late Tuesday that police are still gathering information. He didn’t have an exact number of arrests.
WCCO-TV reports there were no major disruptions to light rail but buses were rerouted temporarily. Elder says they were used to evacuate people from the most “troublesome” areas.
Police also reported a shooting in a separate area of downtown Tuesday that injured one person. No one is in custody. It wasn’t immediately clear whether the shooting was related to the disturbance.
