The Hayfield baseball team may be a little inexperienced, but it showed that it isn’t afraid to play up to the competition when it beat Cannon Falls (3-2 overall), which is ranked No. 9 in Class AA, on the road Thursday.

Hayfield senior Andrew Becker picked up the mound win as he allowed just four hits in seven innings. The Vikings (3-1 overall) took the lead for good when Jax Bauer hit an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning.

“Andrew threw a bunch of strikes, he trusted his defense and the defense made every play they could make tonight,” Hayfield head coach Kasey Krekling said. “They knew that [Cannon Falls] was a good team and we played very well to beat them. They’re very excited.”
