The Austin boys soccer team had a late chance to win it, but it had to settle for a 1-1 tie against Northfield on the road Thursday.

Sean Baker, who scored to put Austin up 1-0 with 11 minutes in regulation, had a game-winning shot bounce off the post with 15 seconds left in the overtime period.

“It very easily could’ve fallen in our favor, but we’ve been around this game long enough that we know sometimes things fall and sometimes they don’t,” Austin head coach Jens Levisen said.

Northfield (3-3-2 overall, 2-1-2 Big Nine) forced OT when it scored a goal with three minutes left in the game.

Chris Kirchgatter had 15 saves for the Packers (4-1-2 overall, 2-1-1 Big Nine) and Austin had eight shots on goal.

“I felt like we created more opportunities than they did,” Levisen said. “There was a lot of back and forth, but we kept after them and kept knocking. In overtime we had ac couple of opportunities that could’ve fallen.”
