A combine caught fire Wednesday in a bean field.

A farmer was using combine in a bean field on the 30000 block of 580th Avenue in Waltham when it caught fire at about 2 p.m., according to Mower County Chief Deputy Mark May.

The man tried to use a fire extinguisher to put out the flames, but to no avail. He called 911 and the Brownsdale Fire Department responded, putting out the fire.

Some of the beans in the area of the combine had also caught fire, and the combine sustained minimal damage. Loose beans may have sparked the fire.
