Edwin S. Snider, 81, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at the Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie.

Edwin Sylvester was born Sept. 13, 1934, in Newry Township, Freeborn County, Minnesota, to Frank and Mary (McConnell) Snider. Ed grew up on a farm just south of Blooming Prairie and attended Blooming Prairie Schools. He was united in marriage to Lillian Lavon DeRaad on Nov. 3, 1955, at St. Columbanus Catholic Church in Blooming Prairie. For 35 years, Ed worked as a custodian for the Blooming Prairie Public Schools, retiring in 1991. For many years following his retirement he did maintenance work and mowing for St. Columbanus Catholic Church. He enjoyed watching television, fishing, and snowmobiling. Ed loved family gatherings and playing cards, especially 500 and Canasta. In 2004, Ed and Lillian moved from the farm into Blooming Prairie. He has been a resident of Prairie Manor Care Center since 2010.

Edwin is survived by his son Greg (Gloria) Snider of Blooming Prairie; daughters: Pam (Randy) Seykora of rural Owatonna, and Debra Trom of Pringle, South Dakota; his six grandchildren: Amy Snider and special friend Micah Andrews, Kristine Trom and fiancée Patrick Spindler, Jeremy Snider and special friend Erin Finholdt, Jennifer (Jesse) Duholm, Steven (Heidi) Seykora, and Stacy (Andy) Anderson; his great-grandchildren; his brother Lyle (Barb) Snider of Owatonna; his three sisters: Mercedes (Ray) Stanke of Owatonna, Loretta Wurst of Blooming Prairie, and Betty Jensen of Owatonna; his brother-in-law and sisters-in-law; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years Lillian; infant son Edwin; parents; three brothers: Garth, Simon, and Robert; three sisters: Gertrude, Dorothy, and Rita.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016, at St. Columbanus Catholic Church in Blooming Prairie with Fr. Thomas Niehaus officiating. Interment will be in the St. Columbanus Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Worlein-Blooming Prairie Funeral Home, and will continue Wednesday morning from 10 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services, at the church. There will be a 7 p.m. Parish Rosary recited Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Services pre-arranged and performed by Worlein-Blooming Prairie Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
