The Austin girls basketball team beat Owatonna (6-6 overall, 4-4 Big Nine) 59-57 on the road Tuesday.

The game was tied at 52-52, as Shayley Vesel, Kelsey Sederquest and Awenia Nywesh all sunk clutch free throws down the stretch for the Packers (6-4 overall, 6-3 Big Nine).

Shayley Vesel had 25 points and Ruth Koang had nine points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots.

“We played a lot better defense in the second half. Ruth played great defense,” Austin head coach Todd Johnson said. “It was a really great, gutty win and I’m very proud of the girls.”
