Helen Louise Orvedal, 68, of Northwood, Iowa, died Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at her home.
Helen Louise Orvedal was born on Dec. 22, 1947, in Austin, Minnesota, the daughter of Dean and Sylvia (Pederson) Hotson. Helen was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Lyle, Minnesota. Helen graduated from the Lyle, Minnesota High School in 1965.
She was united in marriage to Dennis Orvedal on April 15, 1967, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Kensett.
Helen worked for Fieldstone Cabinetry in Northwood for 15 years until its closing. She also worked as a cook in the lunchroom for the Northwood-Kensett Community Schools.
Helen enjoyed visiting with friends at the Diamond Jo Casino in Worth County, and loved spending time with family and watching her grandchildren’s activities.
She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Northwood.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Annette Orvedal and special friend, Bob Sansgaard of Northwood, Jody (Danny) Jones of Northwood, and Stacie Dingman of Mason City; her grandchildren, Alli Dingman of Northwood, and Hunter Dingman of Mason City; sisters-in-law, Gerti Goodale of Osage, Caroline (Richard) Thayer of Jewell, and Judy Orvedal of Blue Earth, Minnesota; as well as other extended family members and friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Dean and Sylvia Hotson; her husband Dennis Orvedal who died on Dec. 5, 2014; her brother, Richard Hotson; brothers-in-law, Dale Goodale, and John Orvedal.
Helen and her husband Dennis will be laid to rest together at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, 2016, at the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood, with Reverend Jeni Bohls of St. James Lutheran Church in Mason City officiating.
Those wishing to give a memorial in her memory may wish to consider memorial contributions to Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City, or to Manna of Worth County.
