Car fire results in total loss of vehicle

A car that caught fire on Sunday at McDonald’s on West Oakland Avenue was deemed a total loss.
According to Austin Police Chief, officers responded to a call at 2:15 p.m. Sunday of a car fire in the McDonald’s parking lot. When they arrived, a 2002 Silver Chrysler Intrepid was on fire. The car belonged to a McDonald’s employee.
The Austin Fire Department arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire. According to Austin Fire Chief Jim McCoy, the fire started in an engine compartment. He said a patron noticed the car was smoking and initial efforts to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher were unsuccessful.
McCoy also said the cause of the fire is unknown.
No injuries were reported.
