New owners Tammy and Ward Jeno hope they can bring Lansing Corners back to its golden days — but with a twist.
“We want to bring it back to what it was, but with our own touch,” Tammy said.
The couple purchased the property, 27017 Highway 218, in late June and plan to open it as the Lansing Corners Supper Club with their grand opening tentatively set for Aug. 15. The space will also serve as an event center.
After a few months of contemplating the online ad they found for the property, the California couple decided to purchase Lansing Corners at the end of June. Ward, originally from Medford, Minnesota, liked the idea of coming back close to home so the couple could live near their family, which was a deciding factor for them.
They also saw it as a great business opportunity where they could work for themselves.
“We want to bring a little California to Austin,” Ward said.
The building originally opened in 1938 as a gas station and diner. Through the years, it has seen a number of transformations: from a restaurant, to an event center and, most recently, The Corners Bar and Grill in 2014.
“[I like] the historic characteristics and the reputation in years past,” Ward said.
With the support of friends, the Jeno’s decided to make it a supper club once again.
“Everybody loved the idea,” Ward said about reopening as a restaurant. “Why not keep it a supper club? Everybody knows the supper club.”
Since purchasing the property, they have cleaned it, painted the floors, purchased new decor and prepped it so it will be ready for the public.
“It’s a lot of work, but it’s nice,” Tammy said.
She enjoys how versatile the 13,000-square-foot building is and has big plans on how to use it. In the future, she’d like to host bingo nights, wine sampling and be a wedding venue. The facility will hold its first wedding on Aug. 6 before the building officially opens.
“You can utilize it for a lot,” she said.
For now, the Lansing Corners Supper Club will serve as a restaurant that will serve a menu which includes: prime rib, ribs, and an old favorite back by popular demand — haddock. Tammy and Ward aim to offer meals that people and families don’t typically eat.
“We’re going to try and serve what people don’t eat at home,” Tammy said.
Looking forward to the grand opening, Ward has one main goal.
“A full house,” he said with a chuckle.
The business plans to hire 19 employees and are accepting applications for a variety of positions. It will be open seven days a week from 3 p.m. to close, but could change down the line. The restaurant’s phone number is 507-433-7841.
