The Southern Minny Stars gained a split of a doubleheader in Wausau, Wis. Wednesday, beating the Wisconsin Woodchucks 4-1, before falling 3-1.
Pitcher Joe Curran led the Stars to victory in the opener, tossing seven innings of one-run baseball.
The Stars scratched together four runs on just five hits, two by Nick Iovacchini, who also scored two runs.
Catcher Kyle Thomas scored a run and drove in a run with a single. Joe Rockers also drove in a run with a single.
In the nightcap, Sam Smith struck out 11 in six innings, but allowed 10 hits and couldn’t out-pitch David Wells, who struck out 10 and allowed just a pair of Stars’ hits.
