Austin Police arrested Juan Jose Calvillo Jr.

Austin Police arrested Juan Jose Calvillo Jr., 29, after he led police on a chase through northeast Austin early Saturday.

Calvillo, driving a late-model blue van with Iowa license, was eastbound on 4th Avenue when an officer noticed Calvillo, who the officer suspected was driving after revocation.

The officer pursued, then pulled over Calvillo near the corner of 5th Ave. and 9th St. NE.

When the officer approached the passenger side window of the van, Calvillo hit the gas and sped off.

The officer pursued again. The pursuit reached speeds of 55 to 60 mph, said the police report. The officer observed the van cross the center line a number of times.

Calvillo finally stopped when he came upon another patrol car, awaiting the van’s arrival on the 900 block of 9th Ave. NE.

Calvillo continued to resist arrest after he was taken out of the van. Officers used mace on Calvillo, who continued to resist until his hand were cuffed behind his back.

Calvillo, of rural Austin, was arrested for DUI, driving after revocation, resisting arrest and fleeing a police officer.
