Hormel Foundation’s commitment is simply outstanding

The Hormel Foundation’s announcement Monday that it will make its single largest commitment of $5 million to help the Austin community meet its multi-cultural challenge is an amazing gift.

The Foundation’s desire to be proactive as the city struggles with diversity is certainly commendable and demonstrates a continuing long-term commitment to the economic future of this area.

The $5 million commitment is intended to help finance affordable housing, create a cultural center, provide affordable healthcare, develop a scholarship program and develop an adequate transportation environment.

In addition the Foundation is counting on matching funds from state and local agencies, as well as other entities, which could bring the total available to the Austin community to $10 million. Truly an amazing gift and something to be thankful for.
