Sr. Genevieve Speltz, 75

ROCHESTER – Sr. Genevieve Speltz, 75, (formerly Sr. Genovefala), a Franciscan Sister of the Congregation of Our Lady of Lourdes, Rochester, died Sunday, November 21, 1999, at Assisi Heights, Rochester.

She began her teaching ministry in music at Queen of Angels Parish, Austin, and from 1951-1967 she coordinated music classes, directed the orchestra and conducted choruses at St. Augustine/Pacelli High School, Austin.

Among her immediately family survivors include the Most Rev. George Speltz, St. Cloud, a brother, and another brother, Edward Speltz, Minneapolis.

· Service: 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Wednesday, November 24, 1999, in the chapel at Our Lady of Lourdes, Assisi Heights, Rochester, with the Most Rev. George Speltz, former bishop of St. Cloud officiating.

· Visitation: 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 23, 1999, wake service at Assisi Heights and until the time of service Wednesday.

Alta Nesler, 85

Alta Pauline Nesler, 85 of Preston, Minn, was lain to eternal rest on Nov. 19, 1999 at her daughter Mary’s home in Preston.

Alta was born on Jan. 11, 1914 in St. James, Minn. to her parents, Frank and Anna Thompson. As a young girl her family moved to Butler, Minn. At the age of 16, Alta worked as a housekeeper in St. Paul. Alta was married to Joseph J. Daiker on May 12, 1936 in Butler, Minn. During their marriage they moved to Perham and finally St. Paul. To this union was born five children. On Oct. 22, 1949 Joseph passed away. After Josephs death, Alta and her children move to Austin where she was employed by Wavrines Grocery and Ben Franklin for many years. She was and avid bowler and it was through her bowling activities that she met and married James Nesler in 1960. James passed away on May 26, 1987. After Jim’s death Alta moved to the Cedars of Austin where she lived for several years. After leaving the Cedars, she resided with her daughter Mary in Preston, Minn. until her death.

She enjoyed reading, sewing, making Afghans for grandchildren and the sewing of quilts. She was a member of St. Augustines Church in Austin for over 40 years. Her last five years she was a member of St. Colomban Church, Preston, Minn.

She is survived by eight children; Bob and Harriett Daiker, Perham, Minn., Lois and Burt Svedine, Austin, Bernard and Barb Daiker, Elizabeth, Ill., Mary and Steve Nelson, Preston, Sue and Steve Nelson, Rose Creek, Jim and Phylis Nesler, Port Orchard, Washington; Helen and Dean McFarland, Wilmington, N.C. and Bob Evans, Des Moines, Iowa; three nephews; two nephews; 35 grandchildren; 53 great grandchildren and 19 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands Joe and Jim, her parents, four brothers, one sister and daughter Rita.

Pall bearers were Chris and Michail Nelson, James and William Mealy, Anne Kermes and Joseph Daiker.

Soloist was Stepanie Rhodes and organist Jacob Tapia. Jordan Kermes was the server.

· Service: The service 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin with Fathers Paul Nelson and Tom Loomis officiating.

· Interment: St. Henry’s Cemetery in Perham, Minn.

· Visitation: at Mayer Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. this evening and from 9-10 a.m. tomorrow at Mayer Funeral Home with a 6:30 p.m. wake service at the funeral home.

Memorials to be decided upon by the family.

Gladys Haney, 93

Gladys E. Haney, 93, of St. Mark’s Apartments, Austin, died Sunday morning, Nov. 21, 1999, at Austin Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 9, 1906 in Hancock County, Iowa to Grant and Lena (Wallam) Cunningham. Gladys married Irvin Haney Dec. 21, 1922. Gladys was a homemaker on the farm where they lived.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Grace and Edward Clark, Shirley and Gene Maxey, all of Austin; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren, sister, Myrtle Berhow of Austin; special friend, Elmer Frietag, Austin.

· Service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999 at Crane Community Chapel with The Reverend Randy Peterson officiating.

· Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Austin

· Visitation: Friends may call at Worlein Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. Monday and at the church one hour before the service.

Esther Lathrop, 87

Esther (Peggy) Lathrop, 87, of Austin, died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999 at the Austin Medical Center.

She was born April 8, 1912 in Hayfield, Minn. to Edwin and Sofia Berge. Later she moved to Austin where she married Lloyd Lathrop on March 29, 1949. She was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

She enjoyed playing games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, fishing, making things with her hands, crocheting and crafts.

She is survived by son Ken Berry, Austin; Daughter Judy Lish, Idaho Falls, Idaho; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brother Russell Berge, Calif.; sister Dorothy Steen, Calif.; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lloyd; daughter and son-in-law Donna and Dale Christopherson; sister Berneice Buck and brothers Clifford and Stewart Berge.

· Service: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999 at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary chapel with the Rev. James, I. Mikkelson officiating.

· Interment: Grandview Cemetery in Austin

· Visitation: Friends may call on Tuesday one hour before the service at Clasen-Jordan motuary. There will be no reviewal.

The family prefers memorials.

Carl Olson, of Blooming Prairie, died Saturday evening, Nov. 20, 1999 at Meadow Manor in Grand Meadow.

· Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999 at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie with The Rev. Richard Hegal and Intern Pastor Heidi Heimgartner officiating.

· Interment: Blooming Prairie Cemetery.

· Visitation: Friends may call at Blooming Prairie Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and at the church one hour before the service.

Emelia O’Sullivan, 85

Emelia (Smith) O’Sullivan, 85, of Minneapolis, died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999 at St. Therese Nursing Home in New Hope, Minn.

She is survived by sisters and brothers-in-law Marie Jax, Stacyville, Irma May, Stacyville, Dorothy and Fred May, Rose Creek, Mildred and Gene Blake, Adams, Ardella Krebsback, Adams, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

· Service: 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Johnsburg, Minn., with Gregory Leif officiating.

· Interment: St. John’s Catholic Cemetery

· Visitation: 4-8 a.m. Tuesday at the Adams Funeral Home with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. Friends can call Wednesday from 9-10 a.m. at the Adams Funeral Home.
