The Packers won three-of-four events and Amy Bickler took the all-around title. But Austin lost by more than four points on the uneven parallel bars, enough to lose the meet 135.6 to 133.225.

"We just bombed on the bars," Coach Rhonda Alberts said. "We were on the floor half the time."

Alberts wasn’t worried and said she expects her gymnasts to rebound in Red Wing on Saturday.

Bickler, a sophomore, had a tremendous early season meet with an all-around score of 36.45.

"It’s an awesome score," Alberts said. "She averaged more than nine in every event. That’s right about where she was scoring at the end of last season."

Bickler won the floor exercise (9.475), the balance beam (9.35) and the vault (9.275).

Austin’s Jenna Bernado finished second on the vault (8.8), while Packer Suzanne Kooy took second with her floor routine (8.8).

Caledonia tops Lyle/Pacelli

Caledonia’s full-court press hounded the Lyle/Pacelli boys all night long, leading to a 64-52 win for the road-team Warriors.

"They blitzed us pretty good," said Lyle/Pacelli coach Gary Erlandson, whose team kept it close after a quarter, down just 14-12. "Their press did what a press is supposed to do."

Caledonia hit eight three pointers in the game, three coming from center Bobby Schieber, who finished with a team-high 15.

Josh Kunze led Lyle/Pacelli with 18 points. Danny Greibrok added 10 in Lyle/Pacelli’s first loss.

The loss dropped Lyle/Pacelli (2-1) to 0-1 in the Southeast Conference.

"They’re a fine team," Erlandson said. "They’re quick and aggressive."

Matt Row pulled down eight rebounds as he battled Schrieber under the boards.
