Every December, the Mower County Fair Board says "Thank you" to the workers for their efforts.

That’s what happened at mid-day Monday, when Fair Board members served pizza to the CVS workers.

"We have had a contract with Cedar Valley for maintenance of the fairgrounds, during the County Fair, since 1987," said Daryl Boehm, president of the Fair Board.

"Since 1993, we have held a pizza part to show them how much we appreciate their fine work on behalf of the citizens of Mower County," Boehm said.

Darlene Haukom, supportive services manager, said the CVS maintenance services branch has 40 client/workers, working three shifts for janitorial, housekeeping and laundry contractees.

Two new clients are Austin Utilities and the city of Austin, which has retained the services of CVS to maintain their office spaces in the Austin Municipal Building.

The client/workers have also been retained by Mower County to maintain the office spaces at the government center in downtown Austin.

"We send five crews out every day and all of our contract clients are in the city of Austin," Haukom said, ‘except for Cooperative Response Center."

According to Joel Nelson, marketing director for the Fair Board, surveys of fairgoers consistently earn praise for the "cleanliness and neatness" of the fairgrounds.
