The Mower County DFL precinct caucus will be held Saturday at the Austin Labor Center.
There are no DFL precinct caucuses tonight.
Only the GOP is holding precinct caucuses in Minnesota tonight.
A revamping of the Minnesota DFL Party’s rules has streamlined the caucus process, according to Donna Olson, Mower County DFL chairwoman.
"The new precinct caucus is happening all over Minnesota this year," Olson said. "The DFL’s caucuses are either this Saturday or Sunday. We thought holding ours with the county convention following was the right thing to do."
Democrats will begin registering 9:30 am. Saturday at the Austin Labor Center for the precinct caucus that begins at 10 a.m.
"A straw vote will be taken Saturday and it will be binding for the delegates elected at the county convention and on to the state convention this summer in Rochester," Olson said.
Also, resolutions can be presented from the floor at Saturday morning’s precinct and county convention activities.
The resolutions will be voted upon by state convention delegates.
Also new this year is the fact the Mower County DFL Party’s county convention also will be held Saturday, beginning at 11:30 a.m. or immediately following the conclusion of the precinct caucus.
Mower County Democrats will elect 11 delegates and 11 alternates to the state DFL convention. Their candidate preferences must be retained through the state and national convention processes, according to Olson.
The Mower County DFL chairwoman also said new Democrats are invited to attend and participate, including young people.
