The first of the League of Women Voters’ community circles were by invitation only. The more recent set of circles were open to volunteers.
Saturday morning, the circle will widen its boundaries to invite the entire public to come to listen and discuss the issues which have been hashed over by the groups.
These circles should have an impact – they were charged not just by the League, but also by the mayor and city council with reporting back on what actions they think should be taken in order to make this community a better place.
These are people actively seeking to make positive changes in the community. They come from various ethnic and social backgrounds, and represent several income levels. They’ve managed to see through all of these differences and discuss the needs and wants they have in common.
The rest of Austin should make an effort to turn out to the meeting Saturday 9:30 to 11 a.m. in Austin at the Senior Citizen’s Center, 400 Third Ave NE, Austin. Be heard. There are still issues to be discussed and plans to be made. Don’t be left out of that process.
