Arsonists damage Salvation Army

The Salvation Army Austin Corps, 409 First Ave. NE, was the victim of an act of vandalism early Tuesday.
According to an Austin Police Department report, a video surveillance camera captured three male juveniles igniting a fire near a drop-box.
One of the male subjects can be seen throwing something into the box, containing clothes and an artificial Christmas tree. The video then shows a small explosion.
The west wall of the Salvation Army’s Family Thrift Store building was left scorched by the flames.
Austin police were assisted by the Austin Fire Department in extinguishing the blaze.
The incident occurred at 2:40 a.m. Tuesday, and police are looking for the three juveniles, ages 13-15, each with short hair.
There was no estimate of damages.
Windows broken
Budge Oil Company, 501 Oakland Ave. E, was the scene of an apparent burglary attempt overnight Tuesday.
An intrusion alarm alerted Austin police officers to respond to the scene.
When they arrived, they discovered four windows broken, but no entrance gained.
According to the Austin police report, there was no estimate of damages.
