Odds are good that the Austin City Council Chambers will be packed on Monday, and it won’t be to address anything on the very short agenda.
In her trips around the city over the past week, Mayor Bonnie Rietz has invited flood victims to come and tell their stories to the council. Storm water management will undoubtedly be one of their biggest concerns, as will the question of what they can expect from the city, state and federal government.
The council meets at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the Council Chambers on the lower level of the Municipal Building at 500 Fourth Ave. NE. Members of the public are welcome to speak at the beginning of the meeting.
Actual action items on Monday’s agenda include the following:
n A public hearing on the disputed street assessments for work done on Fourth Avenue NE from Ellis Middle School to Highway 218.
n Two public hearings for variances from City Code requested by Theoni Lecakis of 1209 Ninth St. NW and Peter Jacobsen of 500 Sixth St. SW.
n A public hearing relating to the vacation of the right of way on Third Street NE.
n The public hearing on the business subsidy agreement with the Cooperative Response Center will again be continued, to the council meeting on Aug. 7.
n A resolution supporting a tax credit application for an 88-unit multifamily housing project in the Lone Oak Addition to be known as Murphy’s Creek.
n A presentation by Mower County Commissioner David Hillier on the Dinsmoor Acres public improvement project.
