Ryan Arthur Sandvick, 27 of Brownsdale, turned himself in to the Mower County Sheriff’s Department this morning.

Sandvick was wanted in connection with the alleged daylong sexual assault of a female acquaintance.

According to Chief Deputy Terese Amazi, Sandvick is being held in the Mower County Jail, pending a court appearance.

A felony arrest warrant charging Sandvick with three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, was issued last week after an 18-year-old woman told authorities the Brownsdale man had chained her and repeatedly sexually assaulted her in his home on Tuesday.

After the attacks, Sandvick drove the woman and her 2-year-old child to her Brownsdale home and then left the area.

Three churches burglarized

Three Austin churches have been burglarized.

Westminster Presbyterian Church, 801 Sixth St. SW, was the first of the three churches to be entered after hours.

The burglary occurred Oct. 1, according to an Austin Police Department report. Entrance was gained through a window where an office air conditioner was located. Two offices were ransacked and shoe prints were found at the scene.

The latest burglaries occurred at Evangelical Community Church, 1802 Second Ave. SW, and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 1600 Oakland Ave. West.

The Evangelical Community Church burglary occurred between 7 p.m. Saturday and 7:30 a.m. Sunday, Checks, cash and coins were taken and spray paint used to vandalize the interior. Shoe prints were found in the paint.

Also Sunday, a burglary at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church was discovered when a fire alarm sounded and Austin Communications sent Austin police and firefighters to the scene at 2:44 a.m. Sunday.

A 10-by-30 inch glass panel was discovered broken to gain entrance. Two offices were discovered ransacked and a powder fire extinguisher removed and apparently discharged within the offices. An unsuccessful attempt was made to open a safe.

A check of the church’s exterior revealed items left atop a roof portion of the fellowship hall area.

Also, footprints were discovered at the scene in the powder-form fire extinguishing material discharged inside the church.

The church was secured after a Saturday night wedding took place there.

Roofers make mistake

An Austin resident arrived home Saturday morning to discover a crew of roofers had removed the shingles from her house roof.

Trudy Adams of 1111 Third Ave. NW informed the crew she had not ordered the work and Austin police were called.

According to Jorge Blanco of Texas, who identified himself as foreman of a crew working for Todd Yerhot Construction, a delivery order from UBC had Adams’ 1111 Third Ave. NW address on it and the materials were delivered to the home and a crew ordered to prepare the roof for new shingling.

Adams reaffirmed she had not requested the service and Blanco said his crew would reshingle her roof free of charge.

According to Police Chief Paul M. Philipp, the incident is a civil matter to be settled by the contractor and his crew, the building materials supplier and the homeowner, who wanted it documented by police for future reference.

Assailant sought

Austin police are seeking a suspect in an apparent stabbing inside the Brown Derby Bar in downtown Austin.

According to an Austin Police Department report, Freddy Febre-Dones, 26 of Kasson, suffered a 1 1/2-inch stab wound to the chest area after an argument inside the bar.

Austin police officers were called to the Brown Derby Bar where a report of a fight was made at 12:18 a.m. Saturday.

Witnesses, including a bartender, said a verbal argument broke out and the participants were in the process of being escorted from the bar when a scuffle broke out.

The alleged assailant, identified as Brandyn Kurt Baum, 30, of St. Paul, ran away and is wanted on charges of second-degree assault.

Fabre-Dones was taken to Austin Medical Center’s emergency room, where he was treated for a stab wound.
