We applaud the Mower County Board of Commissioners’ unanimous approval of 6.5 new workers for the county.
While the $265,900 needed for the employees will come from a new property tax levy in 2001, the workers are sorely needed in key areas of county business.
Public safety will be improved with the addition of another 911 dispatcher. We hope this means that there will always be two dispatchers on duty in order to ensure the safety of the community.
Another full-time jailer also will help to keep the county more safe as the jail population seems to grow as the community does.
Added staff in the county administrator’s office should help expedite efforts there.
A new security officer in the courthouse and other county offices will allow the deputies to continue their focus of patrolling and protecting the citizens of Mower County.
Additions in Human Services and the Highway Department also will help ease the burden on current employees and help residents get the service they need and deserve.
