This time the company and the foundation have basically insured the future of Austin landmark Wescott Field with huge financial donations.

Both Hormel Foods and the Hormel Foundation each have donated $1 million to help with the proposed $4.2 million renovation of the famed high school football field.

The Wescott Field property was initially acquired in 1921 and the stadium was constructed as part of a Works Progress Administration project in 1938. The last major renovation to the facility occurred in 1958.

Once the envy of Big Nine schools Wescott Field has fallen into disrepair.

The need to return the famed facility to state-of-the-art condition has the Austin School Board raising funds to renovate the stadium and to construct a new track outside of the stadium.

Needless to say, the school board’s efforts to complete this project received a huge lift with the generous donations of Hormel Foods and the Hormel Foundation. The community owes a debt of gratitude to these thoughtful organizations and can take a lead from the example our good neighbors have set.
