ROCHESTER – The Austin Packers boys hockey team lost to Rochester Mayo, 4-0, on Saturday in what AHS coach Denny Laumeyer called a "very, very defensive game."
Mayo opened up the scoring in the first period with a goal by Nick Harper at 11:04. Laumeyer said AHS had several good chances to score in the first period and outshot the Spartans 9-7 for the period.
In the second period, Austin turned over the puck and Mayo scored on a breakaway with a goal by Scott Thauwalt, making the score 2-0. Another goal was scored by Mayo’s Mark Pettis in the second period.
Mayo finished up their scoring on a power play in the third with a goal by Sam Everson.
"We played well as a team," Laumeyer said. "We couldn’t get to their goal tender."
The Packers next travel to Faribault on Thursday.
