Four people have entered the race for a vacancy on the Mower County Board of Commissioners, which will result in a primary at the end of the month.
Persons interested in running for the vacancy created with Gary Nemitz resigned the Fifth District seat for health reasons on Jan. 23 have until Friday afternoon to file for the race.
Those who have filed with County Auditor Woody Vereide’s office and have paid a $50 statewide filing fee are: City Councilman-at-Large Dick Chaffee; retired former Chief Deputy Sheriff Garry Ellingson; League of Women Voters board member Donna Olson; and Austin School District board member Dick Lees.
The filing period for the open position ends at 5 p.m. Friday. A primary will be held Feb. 27 to narrow the candidates to two for the special election on March 20.
