Negotiate a good deal

If you’re in search of garage sales this weekend, head out to Brownsdale and Rose Creek. Both cities are hosting citywide garage sales on Saturday. If you head out to Brownsdale, look for the balloons marking those families who are participating in the sales. Rose Creek residents also will be selling treasures this weekend. That city’s annual spring craft sale and citywide rummage sale runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition, there will be a white elephant sale at St. Peter’s Catholic Church hall with lunch and refreshments.

History comes alive

The folks in St. Ansgar, Iowa, will host their second annual Military History Days from today through Sunday. The weekend kicked off today. There will be re-enactments, demonstrations, displays and speakers. You’ll be able to see weapons and military vehicles and all branches of the armed forces will be represented. There also will be a parade through town on Saturday.

Buy a pre-owned book

Looking for a good book? Mind one that needs a new home? The Austin Public

Library is hosting a used book sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Saturday at the library. Browse through the donated collections and find some good summer reading at a good price, too.
