GRAND MEADOW – A 19-year-old Grand Meadow man was pronounced dead at the scene of a one-vehicle accident early Sunday.
According to a Minnesota State Patrol report, Brandon Dean Stier was alone in his passenger car when he lost control of the vehicle on Highway 16 about three miles west of Grand Meadow.
The vehicle left the roadway, went into a ditch and rolled over and the victim, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected.
The accident occurred at 2:10 a.m. Sunday and remains under investigation by the state patrol and Mower County Sheriff’s Department.
While law enforcement personnel were directing traffic around the scene of the accident, a car approached and was observed operating in an erratic manner. When the vehicle stopped along the road shoulder, where traffic was being rerouted, an officer approached the vehicle and the driver was determined to be intoxicated.
Benjamin Boley, 21, of Dexter, was taken into custody and faces charges of driving while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance (marijuana), according to a Sheriff’s Department report.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Finbarr Catholic Church in Grand Meadow.
