Two men and a boy from Minneapolis were arrested and charged with felony aggravated forged check crimes Monday evening in Austin.
According to Austin Police Department reports, a clerk at Apollo III Superette contacted police after the trio offered checks for payment three times in the same day.
The checks were discovered stolen from a Twin Cities business and also had been used in the North Mankato area.
A 31-year-old man was charged with felony aggravated check forgery and a 29-year-old man was charged with aiding and abetting in the check forgery. Also charged with aiding-and-abetting offenses was a 15-year-old boy.
Victim attacked in lot
Jesus Rodriquez, 25, of Austin, claims to have been attacked by a group of 10 men in a church parking lot.
According to an Austin Police Department report, Rodriquez said the attack occurred at 11 p.m. Tuesday. He said he was standing in the Church of the Open Bible parking lot along Third Avenue NW when 10 men on bicycles approached him and shouted "white power" and proceeded to attack him with their fists and feet.
He was taken to Austin Medical Center’s hospital emergency room for treatment of a scrape to an ear and a cut lip.
Police have no suspects at this time.
Father, son arrested
TAOPI – A father and son were arrested for drunk driving early Wednesday along a Lodi Township road north of Taopi.
According to a Mower County Sheriff’s Department report, a deputy was tipped by Adams sources that suspicious vehicles were driving country roads northeast of Adams, where mailbox vandalism had occurred.
The deputy investigated and discovered two vehicles parked parallel on a road. One drove off, but one remained behind.
The deputy questioned the driver of the vehicle, remaining parked in the roadway. While the conversation took place, the other vehicle returned.
Subsequently both drivers were arrested for driving while intoxicated and taken to the Mower County Jail.
Arrested on separate charges of driving while intoxicated at the same location were James Kellogg, 51, and his son, Edward Kellogg, 25, both of rural Taopi.
The arrests took place near the intersection of 710th Avenue and 160th Street on the Clayton-Lodi townships’ line north of Taopi at 12:43 a.m. Wednesday.
ATV rider injured
GRAND MEADOW – The Grand Meadow Police Department investigated an all-terrain vehicle accident Tuesday evening.
According to a Mower County Sheriff’s Department report, Ross Goodsell, 12, of Grand Meadow, suffered a deep cut below his left knee when he lost control of his ATV. The vehicle went into a ditch and struck a utility pole.
Another ATV following Goodsell stopped and offered assistance before going to his parents’ home along Highway 16 and calling 911.
The Grand Meadow Ambulance responded with a Grand Meadow police unit.
The mishap occurred 7:52 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Sheriff’s Department report.
