A 50-year-old Austin man has been arrested on charges of felony sports book making and possession of untaxed tip boards.
According to Austin Police Chief Paul Philipp, the Austin Police Department (APD) and the Minnesota State Gambling Enforcement Agency have been observing the man, who owns a business in the 100 block of Fourth Avenue NE for several months.
Monday, the APD obtained two search warrants for the man’s business and his residence in the 1200 block of Ninth Street NW and found materials related to illegal gambling activity at both locations.
Philipp says the APD does not have an exact figure for the amount of money involved and says "at this point in time, he is the only local person to be charged … (but) the investigation is on-going."
