A full lineup nearly opened the floodgates for the Austin High boys' tennis team, who fell one match short of Mankato East in a 4-3 Big Nine Conference pairing Thursday night at the Wescott Tennis Courts in Austin.
The Packers took two of three doubles matches to tie the team scoring at 3-3 heading into the final doubles match. Luke Green and Jack Lynch fell in a tight match that ended on a 7-4 loss in the second-set tie-breaker.
"It was a great match," said AHS coach Matt Cavanaugh. "The doubles played excellent, and the singles are improving slowly. Everybody fought to the very end."
The Packers (0-3) are scheduled to host Decorah, Iowa, for a dual today at 4:30 p.m. at Wescott.
