Blooming Prairie blasts Faribault B.A.

The Lady Blossoms softball team not only had to play against a normally tough Falcon team, but had to also play against Mother Nature. BP defeated visiting Faribault B.A. by a commanding score of 12-2 despite the strong winds that plagued the area on Thursday.

Although the differences in the game could be found in the linescores, the glaring one was in the error box. The Falcons committed eight errors in the field to the Blossoms' one. BP's defense in the field was nearly picture perfect as they played behind pitcher Abbey Bergstrom.

Bergstrom pitched all five innings allowing only three hits on one earned run. The hurler sent eight Cardinals back to the bench and allowed only two to walk to first base.

"Abbey did a great job on the mound today, especially since she had to pitch across the wind to get the ball to the plate. Her Kentucky Windage was right on tonight," chuckled Blooming Prairie coach Chad Gimbel.

Bergstrom is now 6-3 on the season.

The Blossom offense came to play, and they did not let hometown fans down. They banged out nine hits for the 12 runs scored. Rachel Stenzel, Amanda Herdina, and Amanda Schlund combined for five runs batted in. Amanda Schlund contributed two of the RBI's during a bottom of the five inning rally in which Blooming Prairie scored seven of the teams runs. Schlund, who normally has been playing ball with the junior varsity team, came into the game in the fifth inning with two outs and runners on second and third. Schlund delivered a hard shot into left-center field which cleared the bases.

The Lady Blossoms' momentum reflects the team's confidence in their ability to play sound softball consistently on the field day in and day out.

"I am very pleased with the way the girls have been playing. We have played good defensive ball lately and we have gotten the hitting when we have needed it," Coach Gimbel summarized.

Blooming Prairie's overall goes record to 10-4 and their conference record to 9-1. Their next contest will be Saturday in the eight-team Hayfield Tournament, in which they are guaranteed three games. The Blossoms open against Southland at 8:30 a.m. at Hayfield's high school field.
