Blossoms top Medford, 5-1

Top-seeded Blooming Prairie put the bat on the ball and the Blossom defense overcame three errors to pick up their first postseason victory, 5-1 over Medford, Thursday night in Section 1A West Sub-Section play at Marcusen Park.
The Blossoms (15-4) moved into the sub-section championship, where they will face sixth-seeded Goodhue in Monday's Memorial Day finals at 1 p.m. The Wildcats knocked off second-seeded Glenville-Emmons 13-5 in Thursday's other semifinal match at Marcusen.
Blooming Prairie got a stellar starting pitching effort from Kraig Olson, who struck out nine and scattered two hits and four walks over the complete-game victory. Medford's only run, coming in the top of the seventh, was unearned to Olson (7-2).
David Kramer and Aaron McDonald each had three hits, while Olson helped his own cause with two RBIs and a 2-3 plate performance. McDonald scored twice and also drove in a run.
Blooming Prairie scored four times in the bottom of the fourth to open their 1-0 lead. Brayton Johnson reached with a leadoff walk and later scored on a hit by McDonald. McDonald and Olson came around on a double by Kramer.
The Blossoms swept Medford in Gopher Conference action during the regular season, and BPHS sent the Tigers into the losers' bracket where they will face LeRoy-Ostrander/Grand Meadow Saturday at 11 a.m. at Marcusen.
