Hilma E. Borcherding, 85

Hilma E. Borcherding, 85, of Sun City, Ariz., formerly of St. Ansgar, Iowa, died Saturday, May 18, 2002, at Hospice of the Valley, Sun City, Ariz.

She was born to Otto and Bertha Schmidt on March 19, 1917, in Hancock County, Garner, Iowa. She attended school at St. John's Lutheran Church School in Garner.

On Nov. 6, 1937, she married Wilbert F. Borcherding at St. John's Lutheran Church in Garner.

The couple farmed around Hampton, Iowa until 1950 when they moved to Lyle. They farmed there until they retired to St. Ansgar in 1985. Hilma moved to Sun City, Arizona in 2001.

She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and was well known for her quilting. She was a member of the Deborah Circle and of the Mona Garden Club.

Survivors include daughters, Yvonne Bohlman, Sun City, Ariz.; Joyce (Roger) Drake, Rochester; Elaine "Billie" Schrader, Mesa, Ariz,; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert Borcherding; daughter, Carol Mildenstein; parents; and 11 siblings.

Visitation: After 11 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2002, at the church.

Service: 3 p.m., Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, Iowa with the Pastor Byron Northwick officiating

Interment: Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar, Iowa.
