Inez Glenore Blowers, 92

Inez Glenore Blowers, 92, of Austin died Friday, July 12, 2002, at Austin Medical Center.

She was born January 19, 1910 to Adolph and Belle (Swain) Strand in Marion, N.D.

They moved to Litchville, N.D. in 1924 where Inez graduated from high school in 1928.

In 1929, she moved to Minnesota and married Walter Blowers on February 12, 1931 in Austin.

A former member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Lyle, she belonged to St. Olaf Lutheran Church and Senior Citizens Center in Austin.

She also enjoyed playing cards with friends.

Survivors include her sons, Robert (Florence) Blowers of Austin; Larry (Mary Ann) Blowers of Savage; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter and grandson, Bruce Blowers.

Visitation: Monday, July 15, 2002, at the church one hour before the service.

Service: 11 a.m., Monday, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery.

Bessie (Saman) Schuhmacher, 93

Bessie (Saman) Schuhmacher, 93, of Austin, died Thursday, July 11, 2002 at Prairie Manor Nursing Home, Blooming Prairie.

She was born December 6, 1908 in Myrtle, Minnesota to Anton and Anna Saman.

She graduated from Austin High School.

She worked as a secretary in Chicago for four years, as a housekeeper in Austin and as secretary in the Mower County Extension office.

On February 3, 1934 she married John Schuhmacher. She loved to travel, garden, raise her family, play cards and dance.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and served as its first secretary.

She was an award winning volunteer for the American Red Cross, Mower County Fair, Moose Club and St. Olaf Hospital.

Survivors include sons Alan (Audrey) Schuhmacher, Grand Forks, N.D., Gary (Brenda) Schuhmacher, Kennewick, Wash.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother Fay (Florence) Saman, Austin; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother, Tony Saman.

Visitation: Monday, July 15, 2002, for one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Service: 10:30 a.m., Monday, at Mayer Funeral Home with Pastor Harold Deye of Grace Lutheran Church officiating.

Interment: Grandview Cemetery.

Doris B. &uot;Dode&uot; Ashton, 81

Doris B. &uot;Dode&uot; Ashton, 81, of Austin, died Friday, July 12, 2002 at the Adams Healthcare Center.

She was born November 30, 1920 in Medina, N.D. to Leonard and Mae (Wyborny) Heiny.

She married C. Foster Ashton.

Survivors include son Robert (Catherine) Ashton, Rochester; daughter Carol Ashton-Olson, Winslow, Ariz.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters Opal (Wayne) Stanton, New Hampton, Iowa, Goldie VonFeldt, Scottsdale, Ariz.; brothers Leonard (Ruth) Heiny, Austin, Sidney (Eileen) Heiny, Austin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, sister Wilma Wilson and brothers George &uot;Butch&uot; Heiny and James Heiny.

Visitation: Sunday, July 14, 2002, one hour before the service at the church.

Service: 2 p.m., Sunday, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with Rev. Glenn Monson officiating.

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery.

Herman Kooy, 86

Herman Kooy, 86, former Pastor of the Austin Church of Christ from 1948 to 1961, presently of Sublimity, Ore., died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at the Marion Estates Nursing Home, where he had been living the last year and a half.

During his ministry in Austin, he was Chaplain of the Civil Air Patrol, part of the Lyons Club, and enjoyed the Church Softball League as well as many other activities.

He was born Jan. 11, 1916, to Dutch Immigrant parents, Henry and Jane Kooy in Litchville, N.D. He graduated from Worthington High School in Worthington in 1934.

He attended Minnesota Bible College and graduated in 1938, after which he held several ministries in Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois, Montana and Oregon.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Don and Janice (Keller), Willmar; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and John Otto, Gilbert Ariz.; seven grandchildren, Mitch, Mark and Tammy Otto, Arizona; Travis Kooy, Columbus, Ohio; Penny Taylor, Virginia Beach, Va.; Ryan Kooy, Minneapolis; Nathan Kooy, Bend, Ore.; eight great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Dewey and Jean Kooy, Ontario, Ore.; and sisters, Gertrude Hanson, Placentia, Calif.; and Laura and Cy Welch, Sparks, Nev.

He was preceded in death by his son, Terry, in 1981; his parents; a brother and sister-in-law, Maynard and Blanche Woudsma; and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Hanson.

Service: 1 p.m. memorial service, Saturday, July 20, 2002, at the Austin Church of Christ.

Burdick H. Frederickson, 89

Burdick H. Frederickson, 89, of Rochester, died Friday, July 12, 2002, at the Charter House Health Center in Rochester.

Burdick Herman Frederickson was born Dec. 30, 1912, in Hanska, the son of Ingvald and Inga Frederickson. He grew up in Hanska and attended the public schools there. He then attended agricultural college at the University of Minnesota.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy in San Diego, Calif. and in Connecticut where he worked on encryption coding.

On June 27, 1942, he married Viola Delda Malskeit in San Diego.

After his discharge from military service he and his wife moved to Sioux City. Iowa. In 1954, they moved to Saint James, where they lived until 1958. They then moved to Rochester.

Mr. Frederickson held various positions at IBM in Rochester. He retired as a manager in the manufacturing area in 1975.

An accomplished musician, he played in the Frederickson Band, a family band. He played accordion with different bands including Brownie Walters, and Lawrence Welk. In Rochester he played with such bands as the Turkey River All-Stars.

He is survived by two sisters, Adeline Longworth of Austin; and Vernelle (Mrs. Joel) Botten of Hanska. He is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Viola Frederickson, in 1995; a sister and a brother.

Visitation: One hour prior to the services at the church.

Service: 11 a.m. memorial service, Monday, July 15, 2002, at the First Presbyterian Church in Rochester with the Rev. Jay Rowland officiating.

Interment: Ennichement of Mr. Frederickson's cremated remains at the church columbarium.
