Austin Strikers win U14 state soccer

The Austin Strikers boys soccer team defeated Winona 2-0 to claim the 14-and-under Classic 3 State Championship in the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association (MYSA) State Tournament Saturday, August 3.

Ochudho Ojulu scored the first goal for the Strikers about 55 minutes into the match. Five minutes later Tony Nace scored the second goal to seal the win for the Strikers.

The Strikers finished their season with a record of 19-3-1 and won five of their six postseason games by pitching shutouts.

The Strikers are coached by Steve Modaff and Vernon Lippert.

In the battle for the U-17 Classic 2 boys championship at the MYSA State Tournement, the Austin Arsenal lost to Coon Rapids, 2-0. It was not until late in the game when Coon Rapids was able to score their two goals to claim the championship.

The Arsenal, coached by Paul Krapf and Scott Oesterle, finished their season with a 16-2-2 record.

The Strikers and Arsenal are two of the six soccer teams that are part of the Austin Youth Soccer Association (AYSA) summer traveling soccer program.
