Neil Irving Ingvalson, 84

Neil Irving Ingvalson, age 84, of Austin, formerly of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., died Saturday morning, Aug. 10, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.

He was born Feb. 11, 1918, in Udolpho Township, Mower County, Minn., the son of Nels and Levena (Hanson) Ingvalson.

He attended Red Oak Country School and Blooming Prairie High School, graduating in 1937.

On July 31, 1941, he was united in marriage to Nina Kittelson at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church. They made their home on the family farm for 37 years. During that time, Neil operated a Holstein Dairy farm, with a prize-winning herd. In 1956, he converted to poultry and egg production and established Ingvalson Eggs. He supplied grade AA eggs to stores, schools, restaurants and etc. within a 50-mile radius of his farm. During this time, Neil was awarded the Ford Farm Efficiency Award. He established the Ingvalson Scholarship at Blooming Prairie High School for students entering the agriculture field.

After their retirement, Neil and Nina moved to Lake Havasu City, Ariz., returning to the Austin area in June of 2002.

Neil was a member of the Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, serving as congregational chairman, sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and served as Sunday school Superintendent. He also served on the Udolpho Township Board. While living in Lake Havasu City, Neil was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, the Golden Kiwanis, Salvation Army, the Senior Citizen Advisory Board, as well as being involved in the Cursillo Organization.

He enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling and being with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Nina Ingvalson of Austin; four daughters, Linda (Ronald) Beckman of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Cheryl Patterson of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; Lisa Wiese of Owatonna; and Cara (Lynden) Smith of Albert Lea; one son, Brent (Jennie Roberts) Ingvalson of Blooming Prairie; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Diane (Larry) Klein of Elk River; and Pam Ingvalson of Blooming Prairie; and many other relatives and friends.

A son, Naven Ingvalson, and son-in-law, Mark Wiese, preceded him in death.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, rural Austin, Minnesota with Rev. Bruce Falksen officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, on Monday, August 12th from 5 to 7 p.m. and for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.

Morris Edward Roberts, 82

Morris Edward Roberts, 82, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Care Center, Osage, Iowa.

He was born Sept. 7, 1919, in Lyle Township, to Merlin and Emma (Johnson) Roberts.

He graduated from Austin High School in 1937. After graduation, he attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa from 1939 to 1940 and St. Olaf College in Northfield from 1941 to 1942.

On April 3, 1942, he entered the United States Army, where he served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater operations during World War II.

Following his discharge on Oct. 3, 1945, he returned to Minnesota where he farmed with his brother, LuVerne. After farming, Morris worked for businesses in Minneapolis and Owatonna until returning to Austin where he worked as a custodian at St. Mark's Lutheran Home until his retirement.

He lived in his home in Mona, Iowa and spent winters in Austin until entering the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in St. Ansgar, Iowa on Sept. 8, 2000.

He enjoyed helping his parents in their later years, fishing, traveling and spending time with his family.

He was a member of the Mona Lutheran Church and the VFW Post 1216 of Austin.

Survivors include brother, LuVerne Roberts, St. Ansgar, Iowa; sister, Jeanette Palys, Austin; nieces, nephews and cousins.

His parents and a sister, Edith Hughes, preceded him in death.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at the funeral home and Wednesday at the church for one hour before the service.

Service: 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, at Mona Lutheran Church in Mona, Iowa with Rev. Lydia Mittag officiating.

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery in Austin with military honors by the VFW Post 1216 and American Legion Post 91.

Marie Jax, 89

Marie Jax, 89, of Adams, died Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at Stacyville Community Nursing Home.

She was born Sept. 20, 1912, in Johnsburg, to Henry and Theresa (Gerber) Smith. She grew up and attended country school in Johnsburg.

On May 21, 1935, she married Augustine Jax in Johnsburg.

Marie was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams, the Catholic Aid Association, Rosary Society and Adams Garden Club.

She enjoyed making needle crafts and volunteering, especially at the Adams Health Care Center.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Gene Millenacker, Rochester; Carol and Rick Brumm, Stacyville, Iowa; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Sharon Jax, Austin; Roger and Dianna Jax, Adams; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Erma May, Stacyville, Iowa; Dorothy and Fred May, Rose Creek; Mildred Blake, Adams; Ardella Krebsbach, Adams; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in July 1993; brother, Alfred Smith; and sisters, Amy O'Sullivan and Leona Heimer.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, with a 4:30 p.m. Rosary Service and 7 p.m. Prayer Service and on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Service: 11 a.m., Tuesday, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Gregory Leif officiating. Casket bearers will be Bryan Millenacker, Steve Brumm, Troy Millenacker, Chris Jax, Dan Brumm, John Jax, Douglas Jax, Dennis Jax, Dean Brumm, Jamie Jax and Tim Jax.

Interment: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Adams.
