Lyle/Pacelli was again unable to overcome a pair of forfeits at the bottom of the lineup in a 5-2 loss to Stewartville in girls' tennis action Monday afternoon at the Austin Country Club.
L/P dropped to 0-5 with the loss, but has a chance for redemption with another match against Stewartville this week. United South Central hosts Lyle/Pacelli today in Wells, and Stewartville entertains on Thursday.
"We did forfeit a couple doubles spots, and we may do that one more match," said L/P coach Suzy Hebrink. "But this gave everyone a chance to play a little bit more at their competition level.
"Overall we're just seeing great improvement, especially going from playing all day Saturday to playing today."
Stewartville took three of five matches on the court. Lyle/Pacelli's Anna Hebrink and Sammi Jones netted the team's only victories at Nos. 1 and 2 singles.
"Stewartville's pretty deep this year, they've had a lot of kids for a lot of years," Coach Hebrink said. "They are pretty solid. It was good to get two wins and see some improvements everywhere else."
Anna Hebrink defeated Briana Montgomery at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 7-5, and Jones won the No. 2 match 7-5, 6-2 over Chelsea Montgomery.
Gretchen Hebrink was defeated 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, and Brittany Hovey fell in straight sets of 6-0 to Brianne Thick at No. 4.
Livja Burke and Laura Christopherson were ousted 6-1, 6-2 at the only doubles match played.
