Rockets outrun Packers on the pitch

John Marshall's speed at Westcott Field proved to be too much for the Austin boys' soccer team as they lost a conference match at home to the Rockets Tuesday night, 6-2.
The Packers managed to stay with the Rockets by matching them goal-for-goal in the first half to a 2-2 tie. John Marshall scored the first and third goals, only to have Austin's Edgar Vargus and Ivan Esquivel kick the ball past their goalie to even the score. But that is where the Packers' score would stay, for they would not break the goalline for the rest of the game.
Also playing a strong game for the Packers were Aaron Oesterle and Den Pham.
The Rockets attacked quickly within the first few minutes of the second half by scoring back-to-back goals that knocked the wind out of the Austin team. They would not recover. John Marshall's speed up front helped them to catch the Packers' too far forward at times and took the game out of reach.
"We made a couple of small mistakes that cost us," commented Austin coach Sam Kolas. "We played a very tough team tonight, John Marshall is ranked ninth in the state."
Austin falls to 1-8 in the Big Nine Conference and 2-9 overall.
The Packers' next game will be on Thursday night at St. Peter.
