Local schools test out differently

The scores of the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments for third- and fifth-graders have been tallied and while Austin as an entire district may see lower scores than last year, some schools have seen their scores rise above the state's averages.
The state average of third-grade students who are reading above grade level is at 49 percent. In Austin, 49 percent of Banfield students are above grade level, Neveln is at 36 percent, Southgate is at 50 percent and Sumner is at 38 percent.
For math, the state average of third-graders who are above grade level is 48 percent. At Banfield, 58 percent of the students are performing above grade level, Neveln is at 32 percent, Southgate is at 53 percent and Sumner is at 37 percent.
In the fifth grade, the state average of those reading above grade level is 64 percent. At Banfield, 76 percent of the fifth graders are above grade level, Neveln has 70 percent, Southgate has 56 percent and Sumner has 45 percent.
For math, the state average of fifth-grade students who are performing above grade level is 53 percent. In Austin, Banfield students are at 58 percent, Neveln is at 36 percent, Southgate is at 39 percent and Sumner is at 30 percent.
