The Second Edition to perform at Paramount

At 2 p.m. Sunday, the local singing group, The Second Edition will perform at the Historic Paramount Theater. This group of 16 women sings choral, pop, and jazz tunes ranging from the 1930s to the present. The group performs music reminiscent of the original Hormel Girls who sang music from the Big Band era. The group has been together since 1987, when they were formed in conjunction with the 50th anniversary celebration of SPAM.
Women have come and gone with the group because some have moved away or for personal reasons. Connie Nelson has been the director for the last 15 years. Three women -- Sue Miller, Helen Dixon and Karen Gombel -- have been with this singing group since its inception.
The women rehearse for two and a half hours, once a week. Their show includes choreography and they have used props with some of their numbers. They sing along to taped background music and the women dress in similar black three-piece suits with matching jewelry and shoes.
"We are available for private parties and we are ready to share a 30- to 40-minute Christmas show. We love what we do," Nelson said.
