Austin High School junior Carl Bauer finished 73rd overall in the Class AA Boys' State Cross Country Meet Saturday afternoon at St. Olaf College in Northfield.

Bauer, who placed sixth in 16:32 in the Section 1AA meet a week ago in Owatonna, ran a time of 17:34.9 as the only cross country runner from the area to qualify for state. Bauer was the first boys’ runner to advance to state since Chris Harden made it in 1985.
