AHS girls#039; hockey team ends three-game skid

Three Packers scored their first goals of the season as the Austin girls' hockey team ended its three-game losing skid with a 6-1 non-conference win at Worthington Saturday afternoon.

Jessica Petersen, Taylor Jenkins and Jenny Nemitz each tallied goals for the first time this season, and Courtney Hughes totaled four points in the decisive victory. Austin's last win was Dec. 3 at Faribault.

"Everybody skated very well," said Packer coach Denny Bray. "We had 41 shots, we like that, and we hit all our team goals."

Hughes had two goals and two assists, while team scoring leader Kristen Faber had a goal and two assists. Jenna Knudtson chipped in an assist on Jenkins' first varsity goal.

The Packers iced the victory with three goals in the final two minutes of the second period. Petersen's goal at 8:41 of the first, however proved to be the game-winner.

Justine Wiste made 15 saves for the win in net for the Packers (5-5, 2-5), who host winless Faribault Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Austin tied its season-high of six goals in Saturday's win, matching its first meeting with Faribault, a 6-0 win on the road earlier this month.
