Decoration thefts reported to police

The advent of the Christmas season has brought with it the first reports of outdoor decorations stolen or vandalized.

Both the Austin police and Mower County Sheriff's departments received such reports.

Two male juveniles, ages 12 and 11, were charged with theft after they allegedly stole an inflatable snowman from an Austin residence, according to local police reports.

The sheriff's department received a report of stolen reindeer, plus a report from LeRoy of the heads of two outdoor decorations chopped off.

Vehicles collide

Austin police investigated a personal injury accident, which occurred 2:40 p.m. Friday in northwest Austin.

Two vehicles collided at the intersection of Sixth Avenue and Ninth Street NW, according to the accident report.

When police arrived at the scene, they discovered a car driven by Kyle David Miller on the front lawn of a residence wedged against the house.

The other vehicle driven by Ryan Wiersma was over the curb at the scene.

Miller, 16 of Austin, was cited for a learner's permit violation. Miller and Wiersma were taken to Austin Medical Center for treatment of possible injuries by a Gold Cross Ambulance Service crew.

The house is owned by Randall Yerhot.

Rachel Rice, 17, was the front seat passenger in the Miller vehicle. She remained at the scene until investigators arrived. Two unidentified brothers of Miller, who were rear seat passengers, fled the scene, according to the police report.

Fire awakes owner

Scott Anderson awoke early Saturday, when neighbors rushed to his house to report his rear deck afire.

According to an Austin Police Department report, Anderson called the Austin Fire Department at 2:34 a.m. Saturday.

When firefighters arrived, Austin police officers had extinguished the blaze with portable extinguishers.

The cause of the fire at 305 6th St. NW is unknown.

Home burglarized

The Mower County Sheriff's Department is investigating a burglary at the William Buckley residence.

According to a Sheriff's Department report, the burglary was discovered Friday morning, when the occupants of the house returned home.

Among the items taken were a shotgun and camera.
