Fire destroyed a barn at the Lowell Meyer residence Tuesday evening.

According to a Mower County Sheriff's Department report, a passing motorist saw flames coming from he roof of the barn and stopped and told Meyer.

The Meyer residence is located 23161 515th Ave., west of Austin.

When the Austin Fire Department arrived, the building was engulfed in flames.

The alarm was received at 7:29 p.m. Tuesday.

The barn and its contents were declared a total loss. Meyer stored a boat with motor and two motorcycles, among other things, in the barn.

According to the victim, he last visited the barn near 6 p.m. Tuesday to check a malfunctioning light.
